Progress after First Meeting

Third Week Lecture

 On 8th March, we have our third week lecture. Dr. Reza had briefed us about the assessment mark and what to do. 1. Weekly Report      -All students are required to update a weekly report/journal on blog within Monday to Sunday (A post regarding the week should be publish latest by Sunday) *Regarding guidelines will be updated by Dr. Reza soon on spectrum and group 2. Individual Assessment     -Dr. Reza will meet with every one of us for assessment     -Date and time will be issued by Dr. Reza soon 3. First Meeting with Head of Departments and committees on 6 March 2019

On 6 March 2019, we have conducted a meeting at 5p.m. in Student Centre. The purpose of this meeting is to keep every single committees update to what's going on and the essential roles that they need to play with. Also, to vote for several things, e.g. having t-shirt or lanyard for our event, what types of materials used for t-shirt and so on. Besides, our secretary, Zana also brief again the latest jobscope to every departments. After dismiss, the top committees have stayed for a short meeting, discussing the day for event, t-shirt type, fund raising event. We have came to a conclude that the event will be on 4th May (Saturday), considering in "puasa" and not to make it falls in "Bulan Ramadan". Then, we decided with voting of majority committees previously, we decided to do it in microfibre. And for fund-raising event, we stick to sell t-shirt to UM students (that not only generate income for us, also lowering down our cost for ordering shirt as n

Second Week Lecture

Before the class starts, the highest committees had our very first meeting at 2 p.m. We have discussed and finalize the initial proposal to be presented on 1st March lecture. A night before the meeting, I have helped out to do an estimated budget for the proposal. Then, we ended our meeting and proceed to class at 3 o'clock. Dr. Reza had a short briefing for us. Then, pass to Jason for presenting the 3 proposals that we currently have. After presenting of 3 proposals, all of you have come to an agreement on first proposal which is about organizing a tech bootcamp. Since we have already confirmed with the event that we are going to organize, it's time to form boards of committees (with various departments) Voting time! After we have finished selecting for department head and members, again the top committee have a meeting at Block B. We discuss a lot of things and finalize them. First Week Lecture

We had met our lecturer, Dr. Muhammad Reza Bin Z'aba for subject GIG1005 Social Engagement. We started off with introducing ourselves, social engagement activities that we ever participated in, and ideas on what we should conduct for this subject. It helps a lot for providing a roughly framework for making our proposal. Through nomination and voting, Jason had been elected for being our project director. Then, we continued to elect the rest of committees. However, due to we don't confirm yet what event are we going to organize, and the respective department that we needed, we had not yet select committees for various departments. The position that I am holding is Vice Treasurer. WHAT IS SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT?

Social engagement that can also be known as social involvement or social participation can actually be defined in numerous ways. The simplest definition of it would be "Social engagement is related to the participation in collective activities, which reinforces social capital and social norms".  A definition proposed by experts would be "Social engagement is the collaboration between higher education institutions and their larger communities in local, regional or state, national and global levels" (Driscoll, 2009, p. 6). The creation, integration, application as well as transmission of knowledge for the benefit of external audience and the University are demanded by this process (Sandmann, 2007, p. 2).  Not only this, according to the statement made by the Minister of HE, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin on 1st December 2010, promoting social engagement to a greater extent is part of their future plans and the ministry will grant and appreciate programme
